Hi! I made Road Raging for my Visual Studies 318 course.
You’re a humble Stellenbosch inhabitant, just trying to reach your destination. You have a long day ahead of you. The sun blazes through your windshield. The road stretching out in front of you carries an endless stream of cars. People are getting impatient. There’s not enough space in this town for all of us!
YOU SIGH. Not only is this a time-consuming, inconvenient problem – but it poses a threat to road users (including pedestrians) and is damaging to the environment. How should we address this? What are our options for more sustainable ways of moving from place to place in Stellenbosch?
Time is running out. The obstacles are numerous. But, so are your options. Will you make it there on time???
Dealing with the problem of private vehicle use, a surge in pedestrian numbers, and poorly designed city centres:
Stellenbosch is a really old town, ill-suited to accommodating the increasing population of students/inhabitants/people who commute in and out of its centre. My game explores, in a wacky-chaotic narrative, not only the causes of congestion in a place like Stellenbosch, but potential, implementable solutions to this problem.
